About Augusta Municipal Golf Course
Welcome to Augusta Municipal Golf Course
With great excitement and anticipation, we proudly announce that the City of Augusta and Cypress Golf Management have entered into a mutual partnership to restore Augusta Municipal to its former glory. As we all know, changes of this magnitude will take some time, but with plenty of hard work and solid decision-making, the leaders of this team feel confident that Augusta Municipal will return to a course of which the fine residents of the City of Augusta can be proud.
The vision for Augusta’s Municipal Golf Course remains simple: traditions and conditions. Never do we want to lose focus of the proud, storied past and traditions that surround this great course. Focusing in on course conditions while remaining true to the roots of the course will be our number one goal as the team presses onward. Without a doubt, Augusta Municipal can be a great place to play golf at an affordable price for all of Augusta’s residents.
Come on out to the course, play a round, and be a part of the reawakening of this wonderful historic landmark. We are excited to be a small part of this venture and appreciate the support of the community in making Augusta Municipal great once again.
We hope to see you soon!
Golf Course History
David Ogilvie left Scotland at the age of 18 to follow his dream of playing professional golf. He was initially asked to join a golf club in Florida, but while en route he traveled through Augusta, where they had a 9 hole golf course - Bon Air Golf club. Ogilvie was so impressed with area and challenge, he decided to settle in Augusta.
Ogilvie further developed the existing Bon Air Golf club with Dr. William Henry Harison into an 18 hole course - the first in Augusta. The club was later renamed and is nowadays known as Augusta Country Club. In 1928 Ogilvie designed the Augusta Municipal golf course, which over the years has changed a little, however you can still see the Ogilvie influence through it’s design (ie. 2 loops of nine holes, par 3s in different directions, a variety of elevations, a mixture of right to left holes and left to right holes and a test for every club in the bag).
